Who am I?
Hello, I’m Dimitra Melanitis, an IT Swiss Army Knife, adaptable to different tools, teams and needs. What stays constant is my focus: designing information systems that are reliable, maintainable and genuinely useful.
For more than 16 years, I’ve been designing, integrating and modernising information systems in scientific and operational environments, helping organisations transform complex technical challenges into reliable, maintainable solutions.
My background combines software engineering, systems integration, solution architecture and automation, with a strong focus on understanding how people work as much as how technology works. Whether I’m designing an architecture, integrating existing platforms, automating processes or translating operational needs into technical solutions, my objective is always the same: building systems that make work simpler, not more complicated.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked with multidisciplinary teams, international organisations and operational users, leading projects from initial analysis through implementation, testing and production. I enjoy connecting people, processes and technology, ensuring that solutions are not only technically sound but also practical, sustainable and easy to operate.
I believe good technology shouldn’t draw attention to itself. It should simply work reliably, efficiently and in a way that helps people focus on what really matters.

WIS 2.0 migration & WIS2Box deployment
Focus area: solution architecture, systems integration, Docker, Python/BUFR data pipelines, international standards compliance
Led Belgium’s migration to the WMO’s next-generation global weather data infrastructure (WIS 2.0). Architected and deployed a custom production-ready WIS2Box platform on Docker and developed Python-based pipelines to migrate BUFR data conversion from legacy tooling to eccodes, including the conversion of older BUFR templates to modern templates compliant with WIS 2.0 recommendations. By the end of the mission, Belgium’s node was fully registered, live and operational in the WMO Global Discovery Catalogue; a successful handover into production.

The Prisonner’s Dilemma
Focus area: modelling, strategy simulation, Python scripting
A Python prototype designed to simulate repeated Prisoner’s Dilemma games between strategic agents. The model explores classic and experimental strategies, including a forgiving version of tit-for-tat, to observe how cooperation can emerge or fail over time.

Rain prediction prototype
Focus area: machine learning workflows, feature preprocessing, model calibration, visual diagnostics
This exploratory prototype was developed to support a broader reflection on how machine learning could complement meteorological forecasting. It simulates the basic steps of building a rainfall prediction tool using simple, station-level data and logistic regression.

Invoicing tool
Focus area: automation, Python scripting, PDF generation, client data management
A custom-built Python tool designed to simplify invoicing. It features client autofill, a dropdown for service references, and auto-generated PDFs with a clean, branded layout, tailored to real needs.
